Surrogate Pregnancy, Cattle Breeding, and Mammoths

Surrogate pregnancy is common in cattle breeding. This involves animal embryo transplantation. In humans the process is popularly called making a “test-tube baby.” In people or cows, test-tube embryos would ordinarily be formed outside the uterus, using an egg and sperm. Zoos may shorten the process using naturally created embryos surgically removed from a biological mother who cannot sustain pregnancy or who succumbs early in pregnancy.

Artificial methods predominate in dairies. Traditional cattle breeders pass good genes from the father using artificial insemination. That way, a top bull can sire more offspring than by sexual intercourse. By using embryo transplants, dairy breeders have gotten a hundred offspring from a good mother, too. Veterinarians can surgically remove a cluster of her eggs and inseminate them in vitro. That way they exploit genes from both parents.

Breeders have created purebred herds using mongrel birth mothers and embryos formed from eggs and sperm of aristocratic parents.

My story in Adam… Forever takes it all to a new level. Adam Boatwright will encourage using embryo transplants with tissues preserved in a woolly mammoth mother and frozen for over ten-thousand years. Dr. Boatwright and veterinarians implant them into elephant surrogate mothers, presumed to have physiology suitable for successfully bringing mammoth calves to life.

Prequel to the Adam’s Chronicles series. The story tells how geneticist and surgeon, Adam Boatwright, uses his skills to prevent his wife’s impending cancer. Adam engineers a super virus that continually generates chemicals that fight off viruses and cancer.

As a test, Adam infects himself with that mutant virus. But the side effect is prevention of aging, and he becomes virtually immortal. Convinced that long lives would destroy the human race, Adam becomes caught in a web of intrigue and conspiracy as he tries to stop profiteers from exploiting his super virus.
