Aging, Cells, and Cancer

Aging is in our DNA. All organisms eventually will die. One rationale for this is that occasional errors occur whenever cells divide, which is something normal cells do throughout our lives. As the errors accumulate, we notice some of the changes as wrinkled skin and graying hairs. Eventually the errors become insurmountable, adversely affecting our essential organs, and we weaken and die. That the natural progression of biological life as we know it.

Some deaths are caused by cancer. Like ordinary aging, cancers begin with errors in dividing cells, but the daughter cells violate the normal routine and exactly duplicate themselves. Those cells are in a sense immortal. They will only die when the host does or when some outside force intervenes.

What if we found a way to make cells divide perfectly every time? Then cancer would be conquered.

In my story Adam… Forever, Dr. Adam Boatwright believes he knows how to achieve that, at least temporarily. He can prevent cancer. But there would be an unavoidable side effect: the aging process would be halted. Anyone receiving his treatment would become virtually immortal.

Prequel to the Adam’s Chronicles series. The story tells how geneticist and surgeon, Adam Boatwright, uses his skills to prevent his wife’s impending cancer. Adam engineers a super virus that continually generates chemicals that fight off viruses and cancer.

As a test, Adam infects himself with that mutant virus. But the side effect is prevention of aging, and he becomes virtually immortal. Convinced that long lives would destroy the human race, Adam becomes caught in a web of intrigue and conspiracy as he tries to stop profiteers from exploiting his super virus.
