Hot-Spot Volcanoes Are Special.

There are a few spots on the planet—Hawaii, Iceland, the Galapagos, and others—where hot-spot volcanoes erupt, typically creating new land when under the ocean. Hawaii’s hot spot appears to be stationery, while the Pacific Plate has slid over the site, creating the chain of islands, hundreds of miles long. Why is that?

One explanation is given in my earlier blog, “Antipodal Focus and Extinction of the Dinosaurs.” A hypothesis is that the hot spots originate with a meteor impact on the opposite side of the planet.

These hot spots can remain active for millions of years, though the individual volcanoes themselves will go dormant within thousands of years and the islands they form will erode away.

A second type of volcano—like Vesuvius and Etna—is instead caused by plate tectonics. In their case, the African Plate sliding under the European Plate. These volcanoes are more abrupt than the hot-spot varieties.

In my book, Adam’s Caverns, Antarctica becomes a hot spot. The survivors who took refuge there are close to Mount Erebus, a tectonic thrust volcano. But that geological curiosity is quickly transformed into a hot-spot volcano caused by forces transmitted through Earth’s center from a meteor crashing near the North Pole.

You can find out more about this story in my book, Adam’s Chronicles.

The epic survival tale begins, as Book I of Adam’s Chronicles tells of the world facing pending impact by a gigantic meteor. Adam Boatwright faces his greatest challenge: preparing for the collision and dealing with the aftermath of the massive calamity.

When all hope of saving the planet is lost, the rescuers hole up in a deep cavern to wait out the catastrophe. Their story deals with worthiness of the human race, family planning, reproductive politics, planned mutations, cloning, animal rights, immortality, sexual preferences, and what life to restore. They encounter betrayal, career crises, shattered dreams, sacrifice, and renewal.

The common thread of this book is science, discussed in ordinary language. Subjects include controlled evolution, intelligence enhancements, non-cryogenic embryo storage, expanded animal-human communications, and prolonged cessation of the aging process.
